As part of the Romney campaign’s dramatic staff expansion in advance of the six-month general election slog, Lindsay Hayes has been named director of speechwriting. Hayes is a longtime Republican communications expert who penned speeches for former Alaska governor Sarah Palin during her 2008 vice presidential campaign.
Hayes’ ascension to the top post was first reported by The New York Times, which also revealed the names of several other staffers who have joined the team for the general election effort or taken on bigger roles at the campaign headquarters in Boston.
Hayes has been writing major speeches for Romney since last fall, including his closely watched CPAC address in February.
Hayes has over a decade of experience in speechwriting and communications for Republican politicians, according to the University of Maryland, where she is pursuing a doctorate in rhetoric and political culture.
