Pelosi: “I could have arrested Karl Rove on any given day”; Updated: Rove Responds

I don’t know what’s more difficult to believe: That this lunatic actually believes what she says, or that she was once second in the line of succession to be President of the United States. In either case, for us bloggers she really is the gift that keeps on giving.  From HuffPo via Hot Air:

“I could have arrested Karl Rove on any given day,” Pelosi said to laughter, during a sit-down with reporters. “I’m not kidding. There’s a prison here in the Capitol … If we had spotted him in the Capitol, we could have arrested him.”

Rove was senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to former President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2007.

Asked on what grounds she could have arrested Rove, Pelosi replied, “Oh, any number. But there were some specific ones for his being in contempt of Congress. But we didn’t.”

I know, I know, she’s a clown and nobody takes her seriously any more.  But still, I can’t get a certain, nightmarish vision out of my mind: A screaming, crazed San Fran Nan chasing Karl Rove down the corridors of the Capitol, brandishing a six-shooter in one hand while clutching hand-cuffs in the other, bullets flying, panicked staffers and tourists running for their lives…

I’m going to go watch some baseball now.

Update: The logical conclusion to this post, via Fox News:

“For Deputy Nancy to have arrested me and thrown me in her one-cell jail, the Congress would have had to hold me in contempt,” said Rove.  He said that in 2007, the judiciary committee voted to recommend to the House that he be held in contempt, but the House didn’t adopt the resolution.

“It’s nice to know that she dreams of putting me in her little jail, sort of like Barney Fife getting her little one bullet and carrying around the big gun, but we’re still a nation of laws, we’re not an authoritarian regime in which people in position of power, like the former Speaker of the House of Representatives could have thrown me in jail,” he charged.
