Via the Daily Caller, this is astonishing. I heard it being discussed this evening on Fox News but until I actually saw the clip, I was sure they were exaggerating. They had to be. But I was wrong. Gruber comes right out and says that Team Obama lied to the CBO and the American people about specific parts of the bill because that was the only way it would pass. They had to keep everyone in the dark, you see, because “the stupidity of the American voter … was really, really critical to get this thing to pass.” If they’d been transparent about what was in ObamaCare, “the bill dies”. But, on the other hand, “lack of transparency is a huge political advantage” and, according to Gruber, the key reason ObamaCare passed. Unbelievable.
Update: MarkRNY in the comments reminds us that Jonathan Gruber is the same guy Mitt Romney hired to design RomneyCare and who famously pronounced that ObamaCare is RomneyCare with Three More Zeros, something to keep in mind as rumors continue to swirl that the Mittster may be back in 2016 for a third try. On a related note, the Supreme Court’s recent decision to grant cert in King v. Burwell and related cases ensures Gruber’s name will remain in the news. Team Obama and their left-wing allies in the media claim Halbig is illegitimate because it’s based on a typo. The problem is that Gruber, who designed the law, was caught on tape in 2012 making the plaintiff’s case:
In case you missed it, here’s the key quote (at about the :33 mark):
If you’re a state and you don’t set up an exchange, that means your citizens don’t get their tax credits.
Typo indeed. Expect to see more of this in the coming weeks and months.
