Declaring “we’ve come to take our country back”, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul announced his bid for the U.S. presidency.
Speaking before a packed ballroom of supporters at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, the first term Senator laid out the fundamentals of his presidential run.
Government spending and ‘mounting’ debt appears to be the cornerstone issue that spurred his candidacy. “It seems to me that both parties and the entire political system are to blame.”, Paul said. In a reference to establishment candidates such as potential opponent Jeb Bush, Paul said “if we nominate a candidate who is simply Democrat-Lite, what’s the point? Why bother?”
Paul focused on issues of individual liberty, government restraint, and maximized freedoms, proclaiming a vision that, “clutches The Constitution in one hand, and the Bill Of Rights in the other.”
While skirting around the burdens of entitlement spending, Paul urged the need for more ‘personal responsibility’ and the necessity of increased employment for Americans. “Self-esteem can’t be given, it must be earned” he said. “Liberal polices have failed our inner cities.”
Paul advocated a number of issues that his candidacy will encompass during his remarks:
Reduce National Debt
Balanced Budget Amendment
Congressional Term Limits
Economic Freedom Zones in impoverished communities
Reduced Corporate Taxes
Defending against Radical Islam
