Paramount pictures has released the first trailer for the action thriller, “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi”
Directed by veteran Michael Bay, this is no “Transformers” popcorn movie, though Bay brings his energizing touch to the screen. 13 Hours tells the ‘true story’ of what happened on the ground at the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, where a terrorist assault on September 11th, 2012, took the lives of four Americans.
Based on the book by Mitchell Zuckoff, the dust jacket tells us much of the story we can expect to see on the screen:
13 HOURS presents, for the first time ever, the true account of the events of September 11, 2012, when terrorists attacked the US State Department Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA station called the Annex in Benghazi, Libya. A team of six American security operators fought to repel the attackers and protect the Americans stationed there. Those men went beyond the call of duty, performing extraordinary acts of courage and heroism, to avert tragedy on a much larger scale. This is their personal account, never before told, of what happened during the thirteen hours of that now-infamous attack.
13 HOURS sets the record straight on what happened during a night that has been shrouded in mystery and controversy. (Mitchell Zuckoff)
The film is scheduled for wide release this coming January, just before the primary season kicks into high gear. This can hardly be a comfort to the Hillary Clinton campaign, as the public will see how her State Department abandoned those on the ground in the midst of of full fledged armed attack by Islamic terrorists. It is certain to raise the national debate and bring attention to how Clinton left these Americans behind.
It remains to be seen how deeply the film will delve into the political backdrop of the Benghazi events, though the trailer acknowledges the threat level prior to the attack as “critical”. Also shown are what appears to be a stern State Department official telling the SEAL response team preparing to respond to the attack, “You will wait!”.
