Iowa Senator Joni Ernst has little confidence in the Obama administration’s ability to thoroughly vet Syrian refugees.
The Iraqi war veteran is calling for a halt to Obama’s plan to import potential terrorists into the United States until, and if safeguards can be put in place.
Ernst points out that a immigration halt is not unprecedented, “This was done after 9/11”, the Senator said.
While calling for an immediate pause to allow Syrian refugees to enter the U.S., Ernst also points out that “a pause can be indefinite.”
“The reason we have these refugees is because of the failed policy in the Middle East. We have a president that doesn’t have a clearly communicated strategy.”
“For the president to take a pause, he would then be admitting that he has failed in the Middle East.”
Ernst is confident that a number of Senate Democrats will join in efforts to halt President Obama’s plans.
