Dan Bongino Announces Congressional Bid • Florida 19th
June 25th, 2016 • iizthatiiz
Former secret service agent Dan Bongino is running for the Florida 19th congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Curt Clawson.
Clawson first entered Congress after a special election held in June of 2014. The real contest however in this heavily Republican district occurred during the April primary, where Clawson defeated Lizbeth Benacquisto (Palin endorsed) and Paige Kreegel in a contentious campaign.
This summer, Bongino will face off against two deeply entrenched GOP operatives in a Republican primary election on August 30th. He will be running against Chauncey Goss, who has worked closely with House Speaker Paul Ryan, and against longtime Bush family supporter Francis Rooney.
Bongino’s political career began in 2012, running to represent Maryland in the U.S. Senate against Washington D.C. fixture Ben Cardin, who won handily in a three-way race that included Independent candidate Rob Sobhani who siphoned off 17% of the vote.
In 2014, Bongino sought to unseat Democratic incumbent John Delaney from Maryland’s 6th congressional district and almost pulled off the upset, losing by a mere 2,700 votes.
After two long-odds campaigns in deeply Democratic Maryland, Bongino and family moved to the more friendly environs of the Florida 19th in May of last year.
Bongino announced his campaign last Monday during a live broadcast with WFSX host Drew Steele. The announcement was live streamed simultaneously on Facebook.
Clawson’s retirement “surprised” everyone Bongino said, lamenting the loss of a conservative representative.
Positioning himself against his primary opponents, Bongino made the case that he is the candidate best suited for the Florida 19th, “This is a conservative district. Conservatism matters. Being a Republican is not enough anymore. We need conservatives. We have enough sellouts. We have enough people full of excuses. We don’t have enough people full of conservative answers. The district deserves a conservative voice.”
‘Citizens For Bongino‘ has released the short video ‘Truth’, that sets the tone for the issues Bongino intends to bring to the forefront in this election. After a brief introduction where the candidate speaks of his background, Bongino focuses in on ‘status quo’ politicians who have misled their constituencies. Other topics that receive discussion are Hillary Clinton, Terrorism, Obamacare, Social Security, National Debt, and American exceptionalism.
