Vast majority of GOP voters support Trump above Republican politicians.
A new survey from Rasmussen Reports shows that 63 percent of Republican voters say that President-elect Donald Trump best reflects their viewpoint, while only 27 percent of GOP voters say that congressional Republicans are closer to their beliefs on major issues.
Even 16 percent of Democrat voters identify more strongly with Trump, than their own Democrat representatives.
The survey leaves no doubt that Donald Trump is now the titular leader of the Republican party, not House Speaker Paul Ryan, nor Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Republican voters have given Donald Trump an overwhelming mandate, and will expect House and Senate Republicans to support his legislative agendas. Those who defect may find themselves on the receiving end of Trump’s twitter feed, subjecting themselves to significant backlash from their own constituents.
Trump enters office holding a winning hand. Lets hope that he plays it.
