Sen. Sessions promises to ‘recuse myself’ from ongoing Clinton investigations
Under questioning from Chairman Chuck Grassley, Senator Jeff Sessions told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he would recuse himself as Attorney General from any ongoing FBI investigations of Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation during today’s confirmation hearing.
“I, like a lot of people made comments about the issues in that campaign with regard to Secretary Clinton. And some of the comments I made, I do believe that could place my objectivity in question.”
“I believe the proper thing for me to do, would be to recuse myself from any questions involving those kind of investigations that involve Secretary Clinton.”
Seeking clarification, Grassley further asked if he would fully recuse himself from the matter, or if he would merely “defer”, as Attorney General Loretta Lynch did when her ability to remain impartial came into question at the height of the Clinton email investigation. Sessions replied that he would officially recuse.
