Trump ‘unplugs’ CNN at press conference: “You are fake news!”
CNN’s Jim Acosta attempting to hijack Trump’s press conference, got more than he bargained for
Today’s press conference at Trump Tower opened with incoming Press Secretary Sean Spicer excoriating CNN and Buzzfeed for reporting unverified allegations that the Russian government was in possession of embarrassing information on President-elect Trump. “The fact that Buzzfeed and CNN made the decision to run with this unsubstantiated claim is a sad and pathetic attempt to get clicks”, said Spicer
Vice President-elect Mike Pence introducing Trump, also addressed the media debacle:
“I have long been a supporter of a free and independent press, and I always will be.”
“But with freedom comes responsibility, and the irresponsible decision of a few news organizations to run with a false and unsubstantiated report, when most news organizations resisted the temptation to propagate this fake news, can only be attributed to media bias.”
An attempt to demean the president-elect and our incoming administration, and the American people are sick and tired of it.”
Shortly upon taking the microphone, Trump thanked many of the reporters in the room for coming out, “so strongly against that fake news”, adding that they were “incredibly professional”.
Midway through the presser, CNN’s Jim Acosta attempted to hijack the conference.
As Trump was calling upon another journalist for a question, Acosta tried to inject himself, “Since you are attacking us, can you give us a question?”, completely ignoring the fact that Trump hadn’t attacked CNN at all.
The President-Elect at first ignored him, but Acosta repeatedly kept interceding.
