Judge Roy Moore, the perceived outsider candidate in a contest against incumbent, Luther Strange, has won Tuesday’s long anticipated primary battle.
Moore bested Strange in August by 39% to 33%, but not by enough to avoid a runoff.
Since then, the Washington establishment has spent millions of dollars on the incumbent. Well-funded groups from Karl Rove’s American Crossroads to the Chamber of Commerce had given Strange their support. Further, Mitch McConnell’s Senate Leadership Fund sent in a whopping $8 Million to wipe out Judge Roy Moore. In a final effort, the GOP establishment pressured President Trump and Vice President Pence to campaign for Luther Strange this past weekend. Interestingly, Bob Corker who strongly lobbied for support of Luther Strange revealed today that he himself would not be running for re-election in 2018.
The Washington Post reported prior:
A Strange defeat, they worried, could prompt some GOP senators to retire to avoid facing the wrath of anti-establishment voters and the likes of Bannon’s Breitbart News.
Moore’s victory tonight is a massive win for the grassroots. In the recent weeks, he received the support of anti-establishment stalwarts like Governor Palin, Stephen Bannon, and Sebastian Gorka. Just last week, Governor Palin lit up the voters by giving an energized speech for Judge Roy Moore.
This is the strong message to D.C. that Governor Palin mentioned in her speech.
Congratulations to Judge Roy Moore and to the voters of Alabama.
