Regardless of the massive media pile on to Judge Roy Moore in Alabama, incredibly he is maintaining leads in the Alabama Senate race from the very people who should know him better: the voters of Alabama.
Yesterday, The Hill reported that a new FOX10 poll revealed Moore ahead by six points. On Monday, a poll was released showing Moore ahead by 10 points.
Strangely enough, the only poll reported widely by the mainstream media and even outlets like Drudge was a poll which was the only poll which showed Moore trailing his Democrat opponent, Doug Jones by four points. Additionally this poll was released before the two which show Moore ahead.
It appears that nearly every national Republican has bailed on Judge Roy Moore. The RNC has pulled funding. Senators all across America have denounced him and called on him to drop out. As such, Mitch McConnell has been trying to concoct scenarios to replace Moore with someone else. That is not going over too well with the Alabama GOP, however:
The chairwoman of the Alabama Republican Party warned she’s ready to enforce strict rules on party purity in the state’s Senate race, even if it means kicking GOP candidates off the ballot in future elections.
"It would be a serious error for any current elected GOP official or candidate to publicly endorse another party’s candidate, an independent, a third party or a write in candidate in a general election as well,” Alabama GOP Chairwoman Terry Lathan told the Alabama Political Reporter. "I have heard of no GOP elected official or candidate that is even considering this option."
The people of Alabama seem perched to stand on their own, defying the national GOP. Perhaps they know Moore better than others do. Perhaps they don’t believe the pile on of recent charges. Perhaps they believe Moore is guilty and has since, grown as a good man who’s served them honorably.
Whatever the case is, it will be interesting to see D.C. attempt to lock horns with Alabama.
